Let's Join Hands And Hearts For Their Future We
are very proud and pleased that Barak Obama chose Ghana as his first official visit to the African continent as President
of the United States. The Ghanaian democratic political system is important to acknowledge, with the goal of inspiring
other African nations to join hands in democracy.
While the newly elected President of Ghana, John Mills, shares
our belief in the importance of education, there is no current government timetable to address this important issue.
This means that, without assistance, Ghanaian children from poor families and villages in rural areas will continue to suffer
from a lack of education. So, until the government of Ghana can provide a high school for Senchi and other rural villages,
we have begun an initiative called the Ghana Scholarship Fund.

Then they can make a difference...
...if they can complete their education.

The Ghana Scholarship Fund is driven for us by Kathleen Hubbard-Ismail, a former member of the Board of Directors
of Global Volunteers and an on-going volunteer with over 20 years of service. To quote Kathleen, “This past
January 2009, I traveled with Global Volunteers to Senchi Ferry, Ghana and it changed my life.
The children of this rural village touched me like no other
place I have ever been. I learned first-hand how bright, thirsty and eager these children are to learn, to absorb and to know.
Their only barrier to a brighter future is education and because they deserve a life of fulfillment, I am called to help.
Together, we can offer hope to these children
and make it our legacy to them. I am privileged and grateful to have been invited into this community, whose primary goal
is to educate their children. I now share their dream. My heart chose these children. The rest of me followed.
I hope you will follow too."
